Some people want to go for piano graded exams, like many music students in Singapore, while others simply want to learn piano on a casual basis. If your goal is to pass grade 8 of the ABRSM piano examinations in Singapore, then chances are, you would have wanted to know an estimate of the amount of time it would take an average music student to achieve it in Singapore. If you want to know more, you can check out the LinkedIn of SG LEARN PIANO, a match up agency in Singapore.
First of all, most students take lessons 4 times a month. If you are also learning from a private home piano teacher in Singapore, then chances are, you are also learning at this same frequency. If so, then most students take approximately 9 to 10 months to properly prepare for their examinations and then take the ABRSM examinations. Of course, if you are a retiree or do not need to work nor study, then you can dedicate more time to practising the piano and would be able to learn and master each grade’s piano songs in less than 9 or 10 months. However, most piano students in Singapore are school students or working adults, and so 9 to 10 months per grade is a very reasonable time frame.
With the above estimate, you would be able to get your grade 8 certification in Singapore within 8 years. However, to be safe and conservative, you would ideally want to prepare for an additional 1 to 3 more years. This is because your work or school requirements may change, and cause a slow down in your piano lessons in certain years. Some students may also fail certain examinations at the higher grades, so that will take time for the retaking of the examinations as well.
